ID Now Required to Open Investment Accounts

To comply with the federal government’s Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act, CDSPI Advisory Services Inc. is now required to confirm the identity of applicants opening accounts in the Canadian Dentists' Investment Program.

Applicants are required to provide a reproduction of an acceptable identification document (such as a current driver’s licence or passport or a SIN card), along with the signed declaration of a commissioner of oaths or other guarantor. When providing this information, applicants can use an “Identification Form for Participants in the Canadian Dentists' Investment Program”. This document is available by calling CDSPI and on our on-line forms page.

CDA Income Trusts Fund Becomes CDA High Income Fund

As a result of changes to the fund’s investment strategies, the CDA Income Trusts Fund has become the CDA High Income Fund (Sceptre).

The investment objective of the fund will remain the same — to provide a high level of income along with moderate capital growth. However, key changes have been made to broaden the fund’s investment instruments.

The CDA Income Trusts Fund primarily invested in a diversified selection of Canadian Royalty and Income Trusts (with an emphasis on Real Estate Investment Trusts). However, the CDA High Income Fund will include these investment instruments along with new investments — including fixed income securities and high-yielding Canadian equities.

These changes were prompted by the federal government’s announcement that it plans to alter the tax advantages of income trust distributions beginning in 2011. “The expanded mandate for the fund will allow us to more effectively invest in the new environment at that time — when the tax advantages of income trusts will disappear,” said the fund manager.

The fund’s management fee will remain the same (1.45 per cent). In addition, the changes will not affect the overall level of risk (medium-risk) associated with an investment in the fund.

To determine the fund’s suitability for your portfolio, contact a licensed investment planning professional at CDSPI Advisory Services Inc.
