How is CDSPI different from other financial service providers?

CDSPI offers dental professionals and their families numerous advantages over financial service providers accessible to the general public. Firstly, the insurance and investment plans available to you through CDSPI are like none other.

A member service of the CDA and co-sponsoring provincial dental associations, the Canadian Dentists’ Insurance Program, offers the most comprehensive insurance plans available to the dental profession, allowing dental professionals to deal with one organization for many of their insurance needs. Each plan in the Insurance Program was created specifically with dental professionals in mind — giving them access to features and options they need. And by pooling your buying power, the Insurance Program provides exceptional value.

The CDSPI-administered Canadian Dentists’ Investment Program offers a range of investment plans to meet the financial needs of dental professionals and their families throughout all stages of their lives. What makes these investment plans unique is the CDA family of funds in which they invest. CDA funds come with an exceptional performance record — outperforming most other funds in their categories over the long term. Unlike many investment firms where funds are directed by a single management style, the Investment Program offers investors the flexibility of choosing from a variety of fund management styles.

Eligible participants also benefit from among the lowest fund management fees available anywhere.

Secondly, CDSPI’s service representatives work exclusively for dental professionals and understand the needs of the profession like no one else. The same is true for the licensed representatives at CDSPI’s affiliate company — CDSPI Advisory Services Inc., who provide the profession with insurance and investment planning advice. And unlike many other financial service organizations, the licensed insurance and investment professionals here are not paid on commission — so you’ll never be pressured into buying anything.

For insurance plans, you may indicate on the application form how you wish to be billed for the premium. When you apply for an investment plan for the first time, simply enclose a minimum $50 contribution cheque (or a void cheque if you wish to contribute through pre-authorized chequing).

Why does CDSPI have an affiliate company (CDSPI Advisory Services Inc.) ?

CDSPI representatives can provide participants with information about the insurance and investment plans it administers. However, CDSPI’s representatives are not licensed to provide insurance or investment planning advice.

That’s why CDSPI created an affiliate company, called CDSPI Advisory Services Inc. (formerly Professional Guide Line Inc.) which is a licensed insurance agency providing advisory services to participants in the Canadian Dentists Insurance Program and the Canadian Dentists’ Investment Program.

Staffed by non-commissioned professionals, CDSPI Advisory Services Inc. has representatives who are licensed to provide insurance and investment planning advice to individuals in all Canadian jurisdictions.

Licensed insurance agents can advise you on the types of insurance you’ll need and coverage amounts that will best suit your situation. Additionally, the company’s financial planning consultants, serving dental professionals and their families through Dental Edge Investment Solutions, can explain your investment options and help you implement an investment strategy that’s right for you.

As a dental office staff member, why do I need my own malpractice coverage?

It’s wise for professional staff members to consider obtaining their own Malpractice Insurance. If a judgment is awarded against a dentist and his/her staff members, the award could go beyond the limits of your dentist’s coverage. As well, if you have your own coverage, your defence of the claim will be handled independently of the dentist’s, which may be advantageous to you in some situations.

I make investment contributions through pre-authorized chequing. How do I increase or decrease the amount I contribute?

By using pre-authorized chequing (PAC), your Canadian Dentists’ Investment Program contributions are automatically deducted from your bank account. To increase or decrease this amount, CDSPI requires that you submit a signed request. Please include your account number when sending this request via fax or mail. Click here for our mailing address and fax number.
