Starting Off Right as a New Associate

Whether you’ve landed your first position out of dental school, or you’re still looking, it’s important to keep your insurance needs top of mind.

Our Insurance Advisors*, Sasha Glavic and Julie Berthiaume, meet with dental students across Canada each year to educate them on their insurance needs. They recently sat down with Chiraz Guessaier at the CDA, to discuss the specific needs of recent graduates and soon-to-be associates. What coverages do associates need to consider? Which ones do they typically overlook? What misconceptions do they sometimes have about insurance?

If you signed up for our no-cost Student Insurance Program** without a medical exam, your coverage limits double on the date of your graduation. For those that opted for the Optional Graduate package, your coverage amounts more than double at graduation. Coverage is offered at no cost to you until December 31st of your graduation year, and then you’re eligible to receive exclusive premium reductions on the following coverages:

 

Basic Life Insurance:
Needed to guarantee a practice loan or in the event of your death can help pay off a student loan and help provide for your loved ones.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment:
Provides you with compensation to help cope with the financial consequences of a serious accidental injury. Also provides a benefit to your beneficiary if you die in an accident.
50% off for three years.
DisabilityGuardTM Insurance:

15% off for the life of the policy.
TripleGuardTM insurance for Associates:
Insures against fire, theft, and liability suits arising from slip and fall claims. Provides steady income in the event you cannot work because your office is affected by fire, flood or other insured perils.
50% premium reduction for the first 3 years.1

 

As a 2019 graduate, if you’re already enrolled in the undergraduate student program, you still have the opportunity to apply for CDSPI’s Optional Graduate Package with higher limits for life, AD&D, and DisabilityGuardTM Insurance – until December 31, 2019.
