Update on CDSPI’s Travel Edge Plus Coverage

 

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 travel advisories, we want to provide you with some important details regarding CDSPI’s Travel Edge Plus* Trip Cancellation coverage. On March 13, 2020, the Government of Canada issued a global travel advisory stating that Canadians should “avoid all non-essential travel” outside of Canada. The impact of this announcement is as follows:

 

Trip Cancellation Coverage

For trips booked prior to March 13, 2020:
As long as you booked your trip before the Government of Canada issued an advisory to “avoid all travel” or “avoid non-essential travel” to your destination, your policy will cover the non-refundable, non-recoverable portion of your pre-paid travel arrangements subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of your policy. Please note that the issued travel advisory must be in place during your dates of travel in order to be eligible for trip cancellation.

For trips booked on or after March 13, 2020:
If you booked your trip after the global travel advisory was issued on March 13, 2020, you will not be eligible to claim for trip cancellation.

 

Trip Interruption Coverage

For trip departures prior to March 13, 2020:
You will be eligible to claim for trip interruption benefits if you departed on your trip prior to the Government of Canada issuing an advisory to “avoid all travel” or “avoid non-essential travel,” at your trip destination. All claims will be subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of your policy.

For trip departures after March 13, 2020:
If you travelled outside of Canada after the global travel advisory was issued on March 13, 2020, trip interruption benefits are not payable for claims related to COVID-19.

 

We recommend that you contact your travel provider prior to canceling your travel arrangements. Some airlines and other travel suppliers may allow customers to cancel their trip and receive a refund or change their dates of travel without change fees, when travelling to a destination affected by COVID-19.

 

If your trip has been impacted due to COVID-19, please contact Allianz Global Assistance regarding your coverage and please use the number included on your confirmation of coverage or wallet card. If you do not have your confirmation of coverage or wallet card with you, please call 1.866.520.8823 if calling within North America. If you are outside North America, please call collect at 1.519.742.9013.
