As the threat of wildfires continues to rise, so does the number of communities dealing with the threat of evacuation and damage to property.
Residents should closely monitor wildfire news and prepare for potential evacuations if local officials issue any advisories or orders.
Taking a few simple steps now to prepare will go a long way towards your personal safety and that of your family during wildfire season; these include,
- Create an evacuation plan before any fires are near your community
- Have a plan for pets and livestock in the event a fire threatens your property
- Assemble an emergency evacuation bag that includes personal necessities, including medications and important documents (passports, insurance policies, birth certificates etc.)
- Ensure your property is trimmed and clear from debris if time permits, and be mindful of combustible materials like outdoor furniture and propane tanks
CDSPI has insurance and support information to help you access resources if you live in the affected areas.
